Causes of Conjunctivitis

  1. Viral Infection: Viral conjunctivitis spreads quickly, through hand-to-eye contact or by sharing contaminated objects.
  2. Allergic Conjunctivitis: – Allergic conjunctivitis is caused by allergic reactions to due such as pollen, animal dander, and dust mites.
  3. Irritant Conjunctivitis: When exposed to irritants like smoke, dust, wind, chemicals, or foreign objects conjunctivitis occurs.
  4. Bacterial Conjunctivitis: Bacteria like Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, and Haemophilus influenzae can cause this type of infection.

Symptoms of Conjunctivitis

  1. Redness and Swelling.
  2. Itching or burning sensation in the eye.
  3. Watery discharge from the eye.
  4. Sensitivity to light
  5. Irritation
  6. A thick yellow or green discharge from the eye (bacterial conjunctivitis)
  7. Cold or flu-like symptoms (viral conjunctivitis)

Treatment option for Conjunctivitis

Here are some of the medicines and treatments used for conjunctivitis:

  • Antibiotics:  such as Erythromycin, Azithromycin, and Ciprofloxacin Antibiotic eye drops or ointments are used for conjunctivitis.

Home remedies for Conjunctivitis

  • Rose Water: Rose water has a cooling effect on the eyes and can help reduce inflammation. To use rose water for conjunctivitis, soak a cotton ball in rose water and place it on your closed eyelids for 10-15 minutes twice a day.
  • Coriander Eye Wash: – Coriander is a natural anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial agent that can help reduce inflammation and redness in the eyes. To make coriander eye wash, boil a handful of coriander leaves in two cups of water for 10 minutes. Let it cool, strain it, and use the solution to wash your eyes 2-3 times a day.
  • Cold Compress Cold compress can help reduce swelling and relieve itching and discomfort in the eyes. Soak a clean cloth in cold water and wring out the excess water. Place the cloth over your closed eyes for 10-15 minutes, several times a day.

Prevention from conjunctivitis

• Maintains good hygiene.
• Avoid hot, dry, fine climates, and overcrowding.
• Do not share particular homes. g. towels, sunglasses, handkerchiefs, napkins, cosmetics
•If you are suffering from infection Keep your hands away from the eyes.
•Washing hands with cleaner frequently when you come from outside.
• Avoid consuming incompatible food items( Viruddhahara),and Adhyasanam( gluttony). eat light healthy food.
• Avoid hot head water baths, sleeping in the afternoon, night awakening, and smoking.
